Ku Vikela Nwana
Each child is precious and
deserves to be protected
We exist to bring child protection and sexual abuse prevention to Mozambique
About the Movement
Ku Vikela Nwana in Shangaan language means “Child Protection”
We are a movement dedicated to protecting children in Mozambique.
Through community engagement and trainings we form a protection network to prevent child sexual abuse
What we do
Awareness • Identity building • Prevention
- Awareness – Seminar for parents, teachers, and communities.
- Identity building – School programs, Child protection material and tools to teach kids (Protection Dolls and books)
- Prevention – mobilizing activists that will engage in this cause and bring protection for their communities.
The Situation in Mozambique
- More than half of the population in Mozambique are children.
- The pregnancy rate before the age of 18 is 57%.
- An average of 15 cases of child sexual abuse are reported daily to the official hotline.
- Only a minority knows about the official hotline, and even fewer people report cases.
Mozambique is among the 10 countries with the highest rate of child marriage at 48%. - Cultural aspects and traditions that normalize abuse contribute for all this reality
Why Child Protection Matters
A safe childhood is the foundation for a strong life and a strong society. Protecting children supports healthier individuals and families, stronger communities, and long-term national development.
